Accounting 500 signifies acceptance of all requirements, terms and conditions.
Letter Grades
A = 90% of course points, B = 80% of course points, C = 70% of course points, D = 60% of
course points, E = below 60%
of course points. IN = Incomplete (will be assigned only under the conditions
specified in the University catalog). We reserve the right to utilize a curve
HOMEWORK
Many of the homework assignments require advance preparation. You should always be
looking at least
a week ahead of time
to make sure the material is completed on a timely
basis. All homework must be completed on
line from the Porter text using
Cengage N
ow
.
Homework chapter problems must be completed with at least overall 70% correct answers for
each chapter. You are allowed 5 tries per problem.
Schoenebeck homework assignments should be completed manually using the workbook.
The Schoenebeck homework
does need to be turned in. All homework assignments will be
available for printing as MS Word documents once the homework deadline date has passed.
Schoenebeck activities homework answers are viewable but not printable. Porter homework
answers will be a
vailable in on
line format and are available for printing.
CURRENT EVENTS DISCUSSION BOARD (Blackboard):
Each student must respond at least 4 times
during the semester to a current events original article or comment to receive credit. Your response should be
meaningful and substantive and add something to the discussion.
Your comment
can be no more than 2
weeks old from when the original article has been placed in the discussion board under blackboard.
ONLINE QUIZZES
:
Online blackboard quizzes are 10 points each and consist of 10 multiple choice
questions for each chapter. The content of the questions will
mostly test conceptual understanding with some
quantitative testing. The exams will be more quantitative much like the homework. The quizzes are timed
and

SCHOENEBECK HOMEWORK:
The Schoenebeck homewor
k must be completed manually in the
workbook. It is very time consuming and may take a few weeks to finish. So once you get to the middle of
the semester you should scan the activities and complete the ones where we have already studied the topic in
Port
er/Norton. Once the homework is complete it should be scanned as and the file name should be your
complete name. Send the file to my Digital Drop Box in Blackboard. The Digital drop box is located under
course tools below the Red buttons.

Accounting is not hard, but its hard work. To do well, you should understand that this
course requires a
serious time commitment
Preparation:
To perform adequately in this course, you must have a thorough understanding of the
text an
d the homework materials assigned. It is imperative
you read the assigned Chapter
before you
attempt to complete each chapters homework assignments and review of homework answers. Expect
the reading of each Chapter to take at least
three hours to complet
e.
Homework:
The homework should be completed to the best of your ability on the date assigned. On
occasion there may be difficult problems that you cannot complete. However, you should still make a
legitimate attempt. Allocate
another three to four hou
rs
to complete each Chapters homework
including the Schoenebeck assignments.
Attendance

line class
so attendance is not required

Since learning accounting is so time consuming, it is not a good idea to get behind because it
will be
difficult to catch up. So please keep pace with the syllabus!
Exams
will be based on the textbook, lectures, and homework assigned. Complete the homework not
just for the calculations but for understanding the underlying concepts and principles it is co
nveying.
Understanding
and
interpreting
the use of accounting information is just as important as the
calculation of a number. You will be tested on how well you interpret accounting information, not just
on whether you can arrive at the correct calculati
on of a number.
